
The Health Promotion Administration held the “2011 Conference on Health Promoting Schools in Taiwan” from November 16 - 18, 2011, where 5 foreign experts were invited to Taiwan to share their experiences. In 2013, together with the Canadian International School Health Network (ISHN) and the US Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the Health Promotion Administration coordinated with the 21st International Union for Health Promotion and Education to conduct the School Health Symposium, a health promoting school pre-conference, in Pattaya, Thailand on August 23-25. The conference was attended by more than 60 participants from over 20 countries. The Health Promotion Administration hosted a conference on certification for health promoting schools in Asia, using certification achievements in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore as case examples. The Administration also hosted a workshop for principals to share their experiences. Principal Chun-Hui Li of Guilin Elementary School in Chiayi County, which won the gold award in the 2012 Health Promoting School International Certification, and Principal Ping-Yen Tseng of Tai'an Elementary School in Taichung City, were invited to share. The Director General of the Health Promotion Administration was also invited to make the closing keynote speech and share the major processes and achievements of Taiwan's health promoting schools. In 2013, the Health Promotion Administration participated in the 21st International Union for Health Promotion & Education (IUHPE) (August 25-29) and also set up the TAIWAN HPA booth at the conference to introduce the major processes and outcomes in the Administration's efforts in health promoting workplaces, health promoting schools, health promoting hospitals (including age-friendly hospitals), healthy communities and healthy cities (including age-friendly cities and obesity prevention), attracting 450 participants. 2014 International Conference on Health Promoting School: This conference was jointly planned with the US Association for Supervision and Curriculum. Development (ASCD), the Canadian International School Health Network (ISHN), the European Schools for Health in Europe (SHE) and the Asia Cross-Sector Network/Exchange on School Health & Development. The theme of the conference was "Assessments, Accomplishments, Anniversaries and Action: Knowing Where We Are at to Focus on Where We Are Going in School Health, Development and Education. A total of 12 international experts and scholars from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan and Hong Kong were invited to share their experience in developing health promoting schools. The international exchange platform was created in the hope of drawing on international experience to further health promotion in schools and enhance the health of children and staff. The effectiveness of Taiwan's efforts in health promoting school were affirmed by all the participating experts. In 2015, the Administration hosted the “2015 International Health Promotion Conference” to create an international exchange platform. Fourteen international experts from the United States, Canada, France, Thailand and many other domestic experts shared their experiences in health promoting initiatives and health promotion core competency assessment. In addition, the Administration also hosted the “Asian Health Promoting School Key Indicators Symposium”, and invited 3 foreign experts, including Professor Emeritus Lawrence St. Leger from Deakin University in Australia, Professor Albert Lee from Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Professor Noy S. Kay from Indiana University in the US, 4 domestic experts and representatives from the Ministry of Education K-12 Education Administration to discuss the development of core certification indicators for health promoting schools in Hong Kong, Thailand and Taiwan. Follow-up cross national comparisons were made, and the decision was made to develop the “Asian Health Promoting School Key Indicators” into international key indicators and strive for an Asia Pacific or global network. In 2016, the Administration held the “Active Transportation-Active Society, Healthy People” parallel meeting during the “22nd International Union for Health Promotion and Education World Health Promotion Symposium”, presented our poster “TACKLING TOBACCO”, and jointly published the special issue of “Global Health Promotion” with IUHPE to advance Taiwan's health promotion achievements internationally. |
